Graeme Souness

After 5 successful years managing Scottish club, Glasgow Rangers, Souness was installed manager of Liverpool. In his era at Merseyside he won the FA Cup in 1992 however he found limited success in the premiership. After leaving Liverpool he went into management in Turkey. In 2000 he moved back to England to manage Blackburn, and he earned them promotion back into the premiership and won the league cup with them in 2002. Souness was appointed manager of Newcastle in 2004; however injuries cost his team dear during his reign. After two seasons, reaching the lower part of the premiership table, his contract was terminated in February 2006.

Kenny Dalglish

Clubs – Liverpool, Newcastle, Blackburn
In 1985, Dalglish became player manager of Liverpool and during his first season as manager he managed them to the ‘double,’ as they won both the league title and FA Cup. He won the league once again at the end of the 1987-88 season. Liverpool missed out on winning the league championship in 1988-89 in the final few seconds as they lost at home to rivals Arsenal; however Dalglish won the FA Cup with them that season. The 1989-90 season was the last time Liverpool won the football league. Dalglish left the managerial post at the Reds in February 1991. Eight months later he moved back into management as the manager of Blackburn Rovers. He had plenty of success with them as he guided them to winning the premiership in 1995. His third major managerial role in England came at Newcastle when he was installed as manager in January 1997. After a good start at the club, Newcastle deteriorated and he found himself sacked in the summer of 1998.

Bill Shankly

Shankly commenced his managerial career with Carlisle in 1949, after 2 blistering years with Carlisle he moved to Grimsby and 3 years later he moved onto Huddersfield. He was named Liverpool manager in 1959 and enjoyed many successful seasons with them. He is remembered as one of Liverpool’s finest ever managers. He managed Liverpool to FA Cup triumph in 1965 and 1974.

 

Gerrard Houllier

Houllier was another of Liverpool’s very successful managers. His best season in charge of the club has to be the 2000 -2001 treble winning season. Liverpool won the FA Cup; league Cup and UEFA Cup under Houllier’s reign during the 2000-2001 campaign. In total he spent six seasons managing Liverpool from 1998 – 2004. Houllier brought in many of the players that participated in Liverpool’s great Champions League victory in 2005.

Rafael Benitez

Benitez was installed the manager of the Reds in the summer of 2004 and his side got off to a poor start early on in the 2004-05 season, however a great run in the champions league had significantly improved their league performances and they defeated AC Milan in the final of the Champions league in 2005. Liverpool were highly successful the following season, Benitez helped them to FA Cup triumph in the final against West Ham.
