Liverpool 3-0 Newcastle
FA Cup Final
4th May 1974

This was the second time Liverpool had reached the FA Cup final under Bill Shankly. After a lively first half, it was six minutes into the second half when Kevin Keegan created a chance for Alec Lindsay to hammer the ball into the net from the left; however it was disallowed for being offside. After a quarter of an hour of the second half, a diagonal centre from Tommy Smith across the edge of the box passed behind Brian Hall, the ball reached Keegan who brought the ball up for a right volley and flashed the ball into the top corner of the net. With 20 minutes remaining, Newcastle forced their only corner of the match. Three minutes later, Heighway cut in from the left to pick up John Toshack’s back header and smash the ball into the net. With only two minutes remaining, Liverpool arrogantly knocked the ball around the Wembley turf, sending Tommy Smith down the wing to cross for Keegan to score an outstanding team goal.
