Date Played – 26th March 1983 League Cup Final

The final of the 1983 league cup was a classic, after only 12 minutes, Man United’s Gordon McQueen played a long ball from inside his own half to the edge of the Liverpool penalty section. The second half was played at a much faster tempo and with a quarter of an hour remaining, Craig Johnston squared the ball to Sammy lee, who passed the ball to Alan Kennedy on the left. Kennedy played the ball forward and, from well outside the area, he smashed the ball towards the far corner to level the score line.

Liverpool 5-0 Everton
First Division
6th November 1982

Liverpool were going to find it tough away from home at Everton, however it turned out to be a great day for the Reds.
Ian Rush got the match under way with a cool finish after an Alan Hansen run. Six minutes after the first half interval produced a second goal by Rush. Four minutes later, a Liverpool throw on the right put Dalglish through to advance to the by line. His fast, low centre across the face of goal eluded the Evertonian defenders Wright, Burrows and Steve McMahon, and the hovering Liverpool forwards Ian Rush and Craig Johnston did enough to allow Mark Lawrenson to tap in the far post. Ian Rush completed his hat trick in the 71st minutes and with five minutes remaining, Sammy Lee picked up a pass from Liverpool’s penalty area and advanced to the centre spot and then played the perfect through ball up the middle to Rush, who caught the Everton defence square and went through. Southhall dashed out to meet him, however Rush beat him by swerving right on the edge of the area and slotted the ball home with his right foot.
