Liverpool began the early 1980’s in an indifferent way to their form towards the end of the previous season. Liverpool had a side including Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and Ray Clemence. Liverpool only managed to finish fifth by the termination of the 190-81 season however the following season was a big improvement, Liverpool were emphatic in winning the league title. They won a total of 26 out of 42 matches, tallying up a total of 87 points. Liverpool went into the 1982-83 season with full of confidence, with a back line featuring Mark Lawrenson, Alan Hansen and Graeme Souness. Liverpool won the title once again, finishing the season with an impressive 82 points. Liverpool had the chance to win the double, as they met Manchester United in the 1983 league cup final; the Merseysider’s won the tie 2-1, in a classic final inspired by Bruce Grobbelaar.
Liverpool went in search of the title for a third consecutive season; many stars improved their performances, including Ian Rush, Ronnie Whelan and Alan Hansen. Liverpool won the title gaining 80 points en route. Liverpool faired worse the following season as their Merseyside counterparts, Everton, stole the league title from the Reds as Liverpool could only managed to finish second, tallying with 77 points.
