Everton 4-4 Liverpool (FA Cup Fifth Round)
Date Played: 20th February 1991

This was one of the most fascinating FA Cup matches in the history of the competition. The first opportunity of the game fell to Everton’s John Ebbrell and his missed chance looked like proving costly as the reds took control of the encounter. On the half hour mark, Ian Rush dispossessed Kevin Ratcliffe and stormed clear with a through run on goal. Rush’s shot was brilliantly cleared off the line; however Peter Beardsley converted the rebound.
A minute into the second half, the home side equalized as Graeme Sharp headed home from near range. Peter Beardsley scored a brilliant strike mid way through the second half to give Liverpool a 2-1 advantage. One minute later, a poor back pass created another goal from Graeme Sharp and it was level once again. Liverpool regained the lead in the 78th minute when Molby’s cross was fantastically flicked in by the scourge of Everton, Ian Rush. In the final minute, Tony Cottee stole into the penalty box and sent in a clinical finish inside the Reds far post.
In the first period of extra time, John Barnes scored a great solo goal however moments later, Tony Cottee netted in his second of the match and the result finished 4-4.
