After the success of winning the league in the 1989-90 season, Liverpool got off to a tremendous start at the beginning of the 1990-91 season as they won their first nine matches of the season. Liverpool collapsed after that and Kenny Dalglish left the managerial post in February. Liverpool finished the season off in second position and lost their chance of retaining the league title.
The following season presented change in Anfield as Graeme Souness was installed the new manager of Liverpool.
The Reds also strengthened their side as they bought Mark Walters and Mark Wright, however they lost Peter Beardsley as he moved to Merseyside rivals, Everton. Liverpool’s league form deteriorated as the season progressed and they finished the season off in sixth position. The only bright moment of the season was their FA Cup final victory over Sunderland.
The 1992-93 season did not bring about any improvement as Liverpool stumbled once again to sixth position and failed to progress far in any cup competitions.
The 1993-94 season saw Liverpool finish off in a lowly 8th position, proving to be their worst finish in years. However 1994 provided Liverpool with plenty of hope thanks to the emergence of Jamie Redknapp and Robbie Fowler.
Liverpool also had a new manager as Graeme Souness left the managerial post; Roy Evans became manager of the Reds.
