Sammi Hyypia
Hyypia transferred to Liverpool in the summer of 1999 and has been a solid presence in the Reds backline since joining Liverpool. Hyypia was installed Liverpool captain in 2002; however Gerrards stopped his captaincy a year later. Hyypia has won major honors with Liverpool, including, the league cup twice, the FA Cup on two occasions, the UEFA Cup and most famously the Champions League with them.
Jerzy Dudek
Dudek moved to Liverpool in 2001 for £4.8 million. It took Dudek time to settle into the premiership, he came to the attention of the supporters during the 2003 League Cup final as he made a string of heroic saves against Manchester united in the league cup final. However he struggled to retain a first team position much of the remainder of his career at Liverpool. His finest game in goal for Liverpool without doubt came during the 2005 Champions league cup final against AC Milan. He made number of fantastic saves during the ninety minutes and during extra time he made an amazing double save from a wonderful Andriy Shevchenko shot. His menacing presence in goal resulted in Milan missing two of their penalty kicks in the shoot out and he is now an Anfield legend after his brilliance during that night. |
